I'm Jason Smith, Sculpture Smith™. I come from four generations of jewelers and started as a goldsmith before turning to large abstract steel sculpture. The pieces got bigger. The attention to detail didn't.
I work in steel, stainless steel, and weathering Corten steel. I like geometric shapes in balance: circles, arches, spheres, gears, and long sweeping curves. Much of it is Asian-inspired: bells, enso circles, and Asian characters. I also make indoor pieces, plus public art and commercial sculpture.
For custom made metal sculpture commissions, I talk with you about your space and vision, show you a rendering in your landscape, then build. Most take about 90 days. I crate each piece myself and ship by freight anywhere in the US, or I can install on site.

Metal sculptor near Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh
My studio is in Hillsborough, in Orange County, North Carolina. I'm a metal sculptor with 38 years working with metal, and I take commissions from homes, gardens, campuses and businesses in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and across the state. Most of my work is custom made for its site, and finished pieces are for sale at my home studio and the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts. I ship by freight anywhere in the US, or I can install on site.
